Richard Kraus

American photographer Richard Kraus fell in love with photography while pursuing a degree in Journalism from Ohio University.  His photographic skills broadened by becoming a commercial photographer following graduation.  The first camera he purchased for himself was a wooden 8” x 10” view camera, which he used as a hobby to photograph landscapes.

Richard was so taken by landscape photography that he left his job as a commercial photographer and journeyed to England to photograph early morning misty landscapes.  In 1982 Constable Publishers in London published his work in a landmark coffee table book titled “An English Forest.”  The 20,000 copy sell-out led him to a career producing photographic calendars, greeting cards, fine art prints and books.  He eventually moved back to America seventeen years later.  Richard is known locally for the coffee table book titled “Exclusively Naples,” published in 2000.

ARTIST STATEMENT: “Landscape photographers chase God’s living palette of beauty and capture micro-cosmic pieces to share with others.  This moment of time can enhance our living environments with a sense of awe, joy, or even a pensive mood, but the real glory belongs to God.  Capturing special moments of atmosphere in the landscape is an act of worship.”
