Mystery, intrigue and haunting imagery permeate the astonishingly diverse surrealistic paintings of Turkish-born artist Fusün Gülen. Having emigrated to the U.S. following her marriage to a professor of engineering, she subsequently earned her M.A. in Painting.
The wealth of imagination displayed on her canvasses challenges the eye of the viewer, drawing the observer into wonderful worlds of surprise, sometimes shock. Many of her works are replete with hidden images.
As Gülen notes: “My early works were straightforward, direct depictions, whereas the recent works are less direct. They are not so much a statement about physical appearance as they are a mirror of the soul. The inner life of a human being is a vast and varied realm, dealing with moods, emotions, losses and lost connections.”
