Douglas Sampson
I am an artist with a story to tell. Simple stories of what I love. It could be a moment in time. A place. A certain look. Little things that most people take for granted.
But still I paint.
My paintings are about the love of angels, the love of the first glance with nothing said.
But still I paint.
I always begin my paintings with the simple look of cucumber eyes. They are humble eyes that eventually tell me the rest of the story. After surfacing they begin to take a life of their own. I begin to flirt with them through the use of color, humor, satire, desire, passion and finally love. By the time they are completed I have fallen in love. With each and every piece of my art, it becomes home to me, and home is where my heart is . . . .
Acclaimed artist, sculptor and poet Douglas Sampson received his BFA from the Ringling School of Art, and completed further graduate work at the New York School of Visual Arts.
