Christian Thee

"Christian Thee is a magician, an artist who conjures up wonderful and surprising images on canvas." (Lawrence Grow, Architectural Painting)

"His world is a magical place both in the literal and the metaphorical sense. Thee is a prize-winning magician of the rabbit-out-of-the-hat variety, a stage designer, as well as a renowned exponent of trompe l'oeil. This ebullient and enthusiastic man imbues his audience with a sense of being caught up in his fantasies." Caroline Cass, Grand Illusions and Modern Murals.

Educated as an architect and stage designer, Christian Thee is a master of magic realism and the art of illusion. Examples of his works are featured in a dozen books as well as numerous magazine articles.

Recognized as one of the premiere practitioners of trompe l'oeil art, Christian Thee has been commissioned by a list of international clients that includes Donald Trump, Joan Rivers and a host of four star hotels as well as esteemed retailers such as Bergdorf Goodman and Tiffany & Co. His work is part of numerous corporate collections and is included in the permanent collection of the Columbia Museum of Art in South Carolina and the Flint Museum of Fine Art in Michigan.

Mr. Thee, with his comprehensive background in architecture and professional stage design, combines aspects of both disciplines in his unique and magical trompe l'oeil paintings. Using an extraordinary perspective, his work does, indeed, "fool the eye"; however, after the epiphany is realized, it is then that the art reveals subtleties that are symbolic, biographical and sometimes even political in subject. His body of work includes doors, door frames, ceilings and floors as well as a forty-six foot mural executed for Trump's Taj Mahal in Atlantic City.

Christian Thee has created incredible screens as well as small, distinguished paintings (for which he has manufactured frames himself!) awesome to behold and a joy to experience . . . true optical pranks from which the viewer never tires.
