George Snyder
Inside outside, upside down downside up, on a wall without a wall, the finalized versions of George Snyder's unique creations are perhaps as versatile as any works of art could possibly be. Eye grabbing combinations of color and form make these eminently arresting visions from this enormously gifted artist instantly recognizable and astonishingly versatile in application.
Painting on canvas, with material chosen appropriate to location (inside/outside) brilliant colors are carefully splashed (the oxymoron is intentional!) on carefully selected strips of canvas, then carefully adhered to various sizes of PVC pipe. There is infinite variety -- long, short, narrow, wide, mixed, matched, rainbows of colors or gradations or single hues: the possibilities of combinations with George Snyder's incredible techniques deny any concept of limit.
"Over nearly two decades, George Snyder has methodically developed and transformed a personal visual language which he has used to create metaphors for his moods and concerns. What might appear to the casual observer to be similar, almost decorative compositions, on closer inspection reveal complexities and variations in tone, content and form that suggest larger experiences. Snyder's visual vocabulary is unabashedly beautiful and appealing and at the same time it is self-consciously critical of that appeal. The riotous color and dynamic forms of his works both celebrate and implicate the spectacle of mass culture to which they indirectly refer." Thus wrote Dr. Patricia Mathews, art critic and professor Modern Art history at Oberlin College.
In solo exhibitions and group exhibitions, Mr. Snyder's work has been acclaimed from coast to coast, from border to border, and he is represented in permanent collections and museums throughout the country.
George Snyder accepts commissions which interest him. He has designed for very large exteriors, special designs for lighted niches, bases for large dining and conference tables as well as fountains and special creations for special locations. His work is astonishingly adaptable and unsuspectingly compatible with any number of unusual locations.
