HB (Heather) Clark
Every piece I create has something to say. They are dream-like, full of vibrant colors, demanding for attention and light. I work with the best glass available: hand-poured sheets created by the best artisans in this country. The colors achieved by their meticulous craftsmanship allow my creations to bounce across a room, dance on ceilings and play on the features of those who gaze at them.
The process I use to create my work is my own invention. For years I worked in traditional leaded glass and was in constant turmoil over its limitations. Then I had a bad reaction to the lead, which forced me out of the box. My work is placed on plate glass or the type of Lucite used in architectural applications. The chemicals I use will never fade or yellow, is 99% optically clear, and cannot be burned, frozen or chipped off.
The dangerous toxic lead has been replaced with sanded tile grout. With this method I can create load-bearing walls, back-lit ceilings, floors - - even a back-lit stained glass pool. My installations have survived category 3 force hurricane winds with zero damage.
I relish in creating large works, diving head first into uncharted territories.
Clark’s light drenched creations have been exhibited in South Africa, Brazil, Japan and Italy, as well as the United States.
