2006 SCHEDULE OF EVENTS
Longstreth - Goldberg ART has announced its schedule of shows and art discussions for the first half of the 2006 season. The gallery, now in its 25th year, is Southwest Florida’s largest contemporary art gallery, specializing in “Tomorrow’s Masters TODAY.”
Four shows are scheduled for the Friday dates indicated below, with an artists’ discussion the following Saturdays beginning at 2 p.m. There is no charge for any of the discussions, and the public is welcome to attend.
In addition, well known educator and lecturer, Dorothy Magen, will give a total of seven lectures on a variety of art-related subjects. A nominal fee will be charged for each of the lectures, and interested persons should call 514 – 2773 to reserve a spot.
The gallery’s show and discussion schedule will be as follows:
JANUARY:
Friday, January 13, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.:
ALTERNATE VISIONS opens, featuring the extraordinary photographs of Robert Creamer, coupled with new “Swimmer Head” small ceramic sculptures by Marie E.v.B. Gibbons. The show will continue through February 8th.
120 of Creamer’s works will be featured from October 2005 – March 2006 at the Smithsonian Museum, before beginning a tour to other museums. A book is also forthcoming.
A keen observer of the human condition, Gibbons’ quirkily surreal sculptures also have included her largest installation piece to date, entitled “Society’s Child.” It was acquired from Longstreth - Goldberg by the Macon Museum of Arts and Sciences earlier this year.
Saturday, January 14, 2 – 4 p.m.
Discussion of their works by the two artists.
FEBRUARY
Friday, February 10, 2006, 6 – 9 p.m.:
HEROIC VISIONS, featuring new mixed media sculptures by Linda Stein, coupled with new sculpture by Mark Chatterley.
Stein, who survived the 9/11 carnage in New York, was moved by her life-altering experience to create an entirely new body of work, one based upon the concept of woman as protective spirit/warrier/superwoman. She is currently collaborating on a book further exploring these themes throughout history with Art Historian Joan Marter, Professor of Art History, Rutgers University
Chatterley, whose extraordinary crater glazed sculptures are now collected worldwide, will present his latest large scale sculptures as well as a new series of “humanoid” benches and chairs.
Saturday, February 11, 2006, 2 – 4 p.m. Discussion by the artists.
MARCH
Friday, March 11, 2006, 6-9 p.m.

APRIL
Friday, April 7, 2006, 6 – 9 p.m.
Reception for the opening of MEMORY, featuring paintings by the exciting young African – American artist, India Cruse – Griffin, coupled with whimsical sculptures by Allen Wynn. Griffin, a master story-teller vis-à-vis her paintings, has now had four museum shows since bursting onto the arts scene three years ago. Her “feel good” paintings will be right at home with Allen Wynn’s dreadlocked primitive, yet contemporary female figures.
